Hajdúszoboszló

Hajdúszoboszló used to be the most important source of natural gas in Hungary. The era of natural gas started in Hungary by exploiting the sources explored in the fifties. During the peak period of natural gas production, i.e. from the end of the sixties, 1.8 billion m3 of natural gas were exploited annually from the gas field in Hajdúszoboszló.

The establishment of the facility started in 1977. In 1981 the storage site’s 35 wells equipped with special sand filter were able to store 400 million m3 of mobile gas. At that time the storage site was equipped with three compressor stations and had a daily injection capacity of 2.9 million m3 and a daily withdrawal capacity of 5 million m3.

The first stage of development has jut been finished in 1981 and the Hajdúszobozló Storage Site was expanded first to a capacity of 800 million cubic meters then to 1400 million m3 during two expansion projects. The reconstruction works that ensures to maintain the existing capacities in the long run started in the nineties.

For the time being the nominal mobile gas capacity of the storage site is 1,440 million cubic meters, with a daily withdrawal capacity of 20.2 million m3 and a daily injection capacity of 10.3 million m3.
